FLINT-The City of Flint City Council, along with Mayor Sheldon Neeley will be hosting a Community Budget hearing on Thursday March 25 at 5:30 p.m. electronically via youtube.
Mayor Neeley presented a proposed budget for fiscal year 2022 and 2023 on March 1 to the City Council. Interested members of the public are encouraged to tune in.
The budget, which Neeley states is balanced, calls for over $71 million in spending, no cuts to an ever increasing general fund obligation to the Flint pensioners while maintaining public safety levels. Statements to the public regarding the city’s deficits have been laid largely at the feet of previous state administrators and other politicians saying the structural deficits and mismanagement go back decades.
The meeting will be open for comment to the public and the actual line by line budget is located at cityofflint.com. After Federal ratification of the American Rescue Act or the stimulus package put together, passed by Congress and sign by President Biden, the city will be also receiving over $99 million in aid.
The public and media may listen to the meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 25 through Start Meeting by dialing (617) 944-8177 or online by live stream at the Flint City Council YouTube channel.
