Nick Rappley is the founder, publisher, and editor of the newest Mid-Michigan electronic news media organization, The Genesee County Sentinel. He is a career broadcast and print journalist with over 25 years of experience in television, radio, and print. While obtaining a degree in broadcasting and journalism from Central Michigan University, he began in television production working for WFUM PBS-28 in Flint and later at Comcast Cable Channel 17 in Genesee County, Mich. where he won an award for his first political show Roadkill Politics. After starting as a news videographer at WLNS CBS 6 in Lansing upon graduation from CMU, he became a producer for the 5 and 5:30 newscasts. He later served as an assignment editor for WEYI NBC 25 in Clio, Mich. In 1999 he moved to California and began working as a newspaper reporter, covering sports, education, agriculture, police, public safety, courts, government and politics for a weekly, multi-weekly and two daily newspapers. He was recognized by the California Newspaper Publisher’s association for “Outstanding Local Investigative Government Coverage” in 2013. Rappley also served as press secretary for two state legislators in Sacramento, Calif., giving him a unique perspective on the inner workings of high-level politics and as a journalist. Personally opinionated, he lives by the credo, “Check your politics at the door” while serving in journalistic endeavors.
